Life Just Happens!! Here's a story about what I've been doing in my spare time lately!Last Friday morning I had an internal server error on my blog. The main site worked perfectly, just not the bog directory. It wouldn't come up at all, and I could not access it except thru ftp. I had always thought that an internal server error was the hosts fault, so I put in a helpdesk support ticket to see if they could tell me what was going on. After waiting two days and no reply, I decided that I would try to reload the blog myself. There is about 15 months of posts in the database that I didn't want to loose, and I didn't want to loose the search engines favor (is there any?). I must admit that I don't have a great deal of knowledge of MYSQL. So, I proceeded to install the latest and greatest version of Wordpress in the directory and this nice new Web2.0 style theme. That was my first mistake. After searching and reading, I find that the correct way is to reload the same version of WP that you had previously, import the database and get all working well and then upgrade the WP. The results stand! I have this nice new blog and could not import the database. OKay, you can laugh if you want to! I'll cut this all short... Here's what I've done. I installed the old blog in a different directory and managed to get the old database working. I do have an error, but you can browse all the pages. If you have any expertise with MYSQL and want to help, you can click the helpdesk to contact me. They come up without any problem. You can always get to it by clicking the link that says IM Blog in the bottom menu bar. I'll post there occassionlly to keep the search engines happy, but this new blog will be for all the new product announcements from now on. Here's a page loaded with MYSQL hacks, one of which I used to get the old database back up and running. You can learn a lot by browsing this site and reading posts. Enjoy! Do you like this new theme? It took much tweaking with php code that I use sparingly, but I have it looking pretty good, I think. You can click the blue ball in the lower left corner and select your own theme colors. The default is black. Oh, I finally got around to registering on Twitter, so you can follow me there. To Your Success, Barbara King |
