Your closest friends and relatives cannot help you make this decision. They have their own life and you have yours. They can help you, but basically any success or failure you have is on your shoulders.

Here’s what it comes down to:

What you do with your life is your responsibility. You are the only one responsible for what you have and where you are in life right now.

Once I took total, 100% responsibility for my debt, my failures and my position in life I was FREE.

Suddenly *I* was in control.

I set a course of action, created a plan and just plowed ahead. You don’t stop and question what you’re doing, once you’ve decided on a course of action - you just DO IT.

You stop once in a while to measure your effectiveness, but basically you need to be extremely single-minded.

The reality of the Internet is that it can be anything you want it to be. Here’s why this is such an important thing to learn:

There is no ‘boss’ looking over your shoulder telling you what you have to do every minute.

You are 100%, totally on your own.

That means you have to have the discipline, the courage and the strength to carry on with your plans despite setbacks, bad moods, the weather, money problems, spouse problems, kid problems, leaking roofs, etc, etc…and follow your plan.

This is the very SAME REASON the majority of people lose money as ‘traders’ in the stock market- too much freedom to do anything they want, no discipline and no plan. They fly by the seat of their pants and end up broke.

How do you get started?

You gotta get that yellow-pad out and write down a plan for your business!!!

If you decide you need to write an article a day to post to your website… you DO IT no matter what.

If you need to write a message to your list, unless your computer fails and your hard disc crashes, you DO IT.

If you need to place some more advertising to generate leads for your business, but you’re too busy doing something else, you’re going to fail… so you just DO IT ANYWAY.

The trap of anger

Your anger hurts you much more than it affects anyone else. When your energy and awareness are tightly wrapped around anger, you’re not much good for anything else.

There are many things beyond your control that can be perfectly legitimate reasons for anger. Yet the amount of time you maintain that anger is completely up to you.

The more quickly you move on, the better off you’ll be. When you feel the first sensation of anger, let that be a reminder to let it go.

Anger can be useful in calling your attention to matters that require your response. But anger itself is not an effective response.

Take a slow, deep breath and remind yourself of how much more effective you can be by maintaining a positive, results-oriented approach. Decide, in a cool, calm and thoughtful manner, exactly what response would be the most powerful and valuable, and then make it happen.

Don’t let the foolish, thoughtless, destructive actions of others catch you in a trap of anger. Take note of the anger, let it go, put your focus on being your best, and you’ll surely emerge as a winner.

Do You Have A Son And A Dog?

If I could somehow convince you that you could make a fortune by video taping you and yours doing something funny, how long would it take you to start filming?

About a month ago, my buddy Sam and I saw an eBook that claimed to teach anyone who read it how to become a viral marketing expert. The eBook is called Vital Viral and it contains 18 different viral methods. The eBook claims that these methods will work regardless of experience levels and on any website. Sam and I didn’t believe their claims so we decided to put the methods to the test.

The first method that we tried is called Using Viral Video. We figured that this would be the most fun method and a good place to start since videos are currently all the rage.

Using the methods explained in the book, Sam recorded a two minute video of his son playing with his dog and uploaded it to YouTube. Our goal was to forward people from the YouTube page directly to a sales page.

We optimized not only the video, but his YouTube profile page, his landing page, his sales page and just about everything else that the eBook told us to. We followed the instructions exactly, leaving nothing to chance.

Sam says he expected it, but I know I was shocked to see a drastic increase in the traffic the sales page got after just a couple of days. For some weird reason, people loved the video of his son and dog. People were watching it and forwarding it on to their friends like it was a hot potato. I couldn’t imagine why so many people cared so much, but they apparently did.

By the time the traffic started dying down, we decided to scrap the idea of testing all 18 methods. Since the first one we tried worked so well, we decided to focus our attention on creating more videos and driving as much traffic as we could we them. If that starts to fail, then maybe we’ll go on to method number 2. For now though, why would we bother?

A Whale of a Tale!

If you read the front page story of The San Francisco Chronicle recently, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso and a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. A very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. Then she came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around - she thanked them.

Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

Definition of Motivation!

Motivation can be an elusive beast. Just deciding what the word means can be more complicated than you’d think! But whatever it means to each of us individually, we know when we’ve got it.

And more importantly, when we’ve lost it!

my current definition of motivation is this:

Motivation is that state of mind in which doing something is far more attractive than doing nothing.

What then, can we do when we find that doing nothing has started to win the day again?

Here are five things that I can suggest:

1. Write down your goals.

Your goals are your promise to yourself. They are what you MOST desire. By writing them down you are effectively entering into a contract with yourself to achieve them.

Never underestimate the power of writing goals down. It is the difference between a vague plan and a determined action.

2. Re-write your goals.

Your goals are the map to where you want to go. They keep you on track to reach your most desired destinations.

However, sometimes things change in our lives and our most desired destination yesterday is no longer so attractive today. But we tend to assume that because the goal has been created, we have to stick with it.

To coin a cliche, you CAN move your goalposts.

Often, motivation wanes because the goal that was paramount in our life before has declined in importance now.

We only want to have goals on our list that fill us with excitement - so if you are tenaciously hanging on to one that no longer lights your fire, your entire pool of motivation is being slowly poisoned.

Regularly reassess your priorities and revise your goals accordingly.

3. Make your dreams tangible.

So you want to be rich? Make that vague desire real.

Go to your local realtor/estate agent and ask to view properties that are ten times the value of your current one.

Go and look at brand-new prestige cars. take a test drive.

Go and browse in the best designer clothes shops you can find.

You are not doing all this to tease yourself. You are doing it to reinforce to your subconscious EXACTLY what it is that you desire. You are giving the ‘I want to be rich’ idea a basis in reality.

A goal that you can live, breathe, touch, feel and smell is FAR more powerful and motivating than one that is vague and unformed.

4. Make yourself accountable.

Your mastermind group is ideal, but if you don’t have anything so formal, talk to a trusted friend. Tell them what you want to achieve to make your goals come true and HOW you are going to take action in the short term.

Make each short-term step on your journey something that you’d be embarrassed to NOT achieve.

Fear of embarrassment is a great motivator.

5. Consciously set yourself up for success.

There is nothing more motivating than success. And luckily, your subconscious mind doesn’t have any concept of scale.

Our subconscious - which, after all, is the part of us that really decides whether we’re currently motivated or not - only deals in yes/no, black/white, success/failure options. It doesn’t care if a success is tiny or huge - it sees success or absence of success.

Give it enough absence of success and it will kick in a self-defence mechanism that stops you from wanting to try any more. Result: goodbye motivation.

Just knowing this fact is massively powerful.

Use it by deliberately making small victories - that are in alignment with your larger goals - easy to achieve. Feed your subconscious what it most desires - continual success.

Each small victory will not only bring you a little closer to your goals, but it will also re-ignite your enthusiasm and motivation by telling your subconscious that you are doing the right thing.

Then take ACTION.

Test and studies have shown that even wrong decisions, if acted upon, can make you successful, if you use a ‘course correction’ strategy.

Course correction strategy is simply the ability to be flexible after a decision is made and acted upon, but appears to be off target, so that you can get back on track by learning what went wrong so you can correct your course of action as you move your business forward.

Making a decision, then taking action is more important to your success than doing nothing becuase you’re waiting for all the facts.

Even if you’re wrong, the process of decision making and taking action is critical to your overall success.

It’s more important to DECIDE and ACT, then correct your actions as you go rather than postpone a decision and never act.

Why Positive Thinking Doesn’t Always Work

One of the areas that I have an interest in are the personal traits that lead to success.

I mean, why do some people become successful and others don’t?

Why do some automatically ‘get it’ while others go on for years trying everything and never having any real success?

What ‘breakthrough’ is needed to plunge you past failure and into success?

I’ll be very honest with you, I’ve never read “7 Habits Of Highly Successful People” or any of the other ’success books’ that have been published in the last 50 years.

I never really liked ‘positive thinking’ at all… in fact, my biggest success came when my back was to the wall and it was “do” or “die”… it had NOTHING to do with ‘positive thinking’ and EVERYTHING to do with “DO or DIE” thinking.

That’s been my catalyst… even when I seemingly have all the success I need there’s something inside me that says, “Hey, it could be all gone tomorrow, so you better hustle your butt and add value to what you’re doing, make more sales and offer your products to more people than ever before…”.

There are four types of thinking, in my opinion, that will get in the way of your success:

—-Comfy Food Thinking: —-”Comfort Foods” are all the rage… why? Because they make you feel comfortable. But that kind of ‘thinking can be very bad for your business.

Not being able to move toward your goals because you’re ‘comfortable’ with what you already have… being ‘comfortable’ with your present situation is like signing your death certificate. You’ll never succeed if your too comfortable in your present situation.

—-’No Fear’ Factor Thinking: —-Fear is a great motivator- knowing that you could be broke and destitute if you lost your job or your business stopped working should be enough motivation to keep you going for a long time but most people do not USE their fear… they think they have to ‘think positive’ and ‘everything will be ok’ - Bull.

You need to be afraid, very afraid and USE it to your advantage

—–Amber Casing Thinking: —-The crap that gets built up in your brain over the years- stuff you think is true is really not true and not being able to see clearly enough to know what’s the RIGHT thing to do at any one time will stop you cold. You need to THINK for yourself and stop letting others do your thinking for you.

How many ORIGINAL thoughts have you had this week? I mean REALLY ORIGINAL…?

—-Distraction Disease Thinking: —-The world, your life, moves fast… we do everything fast… go to work, take kids to the ball game, fix dinner, go to the movies, watch TV show (you’re fav), eat, walk…

We need to do these things BUT… they can be simply distractions… constant distractions to being able to focus on what you want. Take 15-30 mins a day (I take 1-2 hours) to FOCUS on what YOU want and HOW to get it…

FOCUS on what you should do NEXT to get to your goal…

FOCUS on easy-to-do STEPS that’ll give you what you want.

Most people have Distraction Disease and their brains are fried from too much external stimulus.

You need to learn how to:

1) STOP,

2) THINK (really think, not just ‘pretend’ to think) and

3) PLAN.

Then COMMIT yourself to a course of ACTION!

Tap Your Creative Potential!

Deep within each of us lies a great wealth of creative potential, and I believe tapping into this potential is the best way to solve the challenges that we encounter in our lives. Let me share a story that illustrates my point.

A lady takes her pet Chihuahua with her on a safari holiday. Wandering too far one day, the Chihuahua gets lost in the bush and soon encounters a very hungry looking leopard. The Chihuahua realizes he’s in trouble, but noticing some fresh bones on the ground, he settles down to chew on them, with his back to the big cat. As the leopard is about to leap, the Chihuahua smacks his lips and exclaims loudly, “Boy, that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here!” The leopard stops mid-stride, and slinks away into the trees.

“Phew,” says the leopard, “that was close - that evil little dog nearly had me.”

A monkey nearby sees everything and thinks he’ll win a favor by putting the stupid leopard straight. The Chihuahua sees the monkey go after the leopard, and guesses he might be up to no good. When the leopard hears the monkey’s story he feels angry at being made a fool, and offers the monkey a ride back to see him exact his revenge.

The little dog sees them approaching and fears the worst. Thinking quickly, the little dog turns his back, pretends not to notice them, and when the pair are within earshot says aloud, “Now where’s that monkey got to? I sent him ages ago to bring me another leopard.”

What a wonderful story to illustrate how with just a little extra thought and some creative thinking we can keep the “monkey off our back” and the “leopards at bay!” I challenge you to think differently about the issues you are facing in your life this year. Gather all the facts; be constructively discontent with those facts and do some brainstorming and green-light thinking. Then, simply write out an action plan to live a richer, fuller and happier life. Take action on the plan!
